Loved this place. The salsas were perfect. The warm fire roasted was delicious. The tableside guacamole was amazing. The entrees were delicious such as the chicken enchiladas. Really enjoyed the drinks as well. The cajillo coffee was just amazingly smooth! Def try that. The cucumber martini was also delicious. They do food & drinks really really well. Also the the dessert was worth a try. It looks gorgeous and tastes just as great. Upstairs patio seating is popular. However they do have bar seating & indoor seating available. The service was good. When it got busy, we could tell. Gratuity was included on our visit (20%).

We had our rehearsal dinner at Iron Cactus, in the Cactus room in the back. Everything ran so smoothly and we kept getting so many compliments on the food and especially the margaritas! The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and taken care of. Definitely recommend for a private event- you’ll be right smack in the hot spot of town! Walking distance to everywhere.

Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar offers a memorable dining experience right in the heart of downtown Austin. Spread across three levels, the space is thoughtfully designed, and we made our way up to the rooftop – definitely the best choice if the weather allows. The rooftop provides a lively atmosphere and great views of the surrounding area, adding a special touch to the meal. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We started with the guacamole, and it immediately set the tone for the evening. Here, guacamole isn’t just an appetizer – it’s a little ceremony. They prepare it right in front of you, customizing it to your preference, and it ended up being some of the best guacamole we’ve had in a long time: fresh, balanced, and absolutely delicious. For mains, we ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad and the Shrimp Tacos. Both dishes were excellent – high-quality ingredients, beautifully presented, and full of vibrant, authentic flavors without being heavy or overwhelming. You could really tell that the kitchen puts effort into every plate. Service was attentive and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed. Iron Cactus is a great spot if you’re looking for a Mexican restaurant downtown that offers more than just standard fare. Whether you’re looking for a casual night out, a lively rooftop experience, or a quality meal with friends or family, this place is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommend.

Ok, I went here for lunch on a Saturday. Place was quiet. Sat on the rooftop. Very chill. Jackie, our waitress, was awesome. Food came fast. Chips and salsa while we waited. I had the Mexican Meatloaf. It was really, really good. Mexican. Mexican mashed potatoes to go with it. It actually tastes better and better as I ate it! The corn was kind of tangy but it went really well with the Mexican Meatloaf. It's a little on the pricey side. But the food I got was excellent. I can't imagine expecting more out of a restaurant....except cheaper prices. Ha!

The back of the restaurant is really nice, they were very accommodating and our waitress, Sarah (I’m sure that how it’s spelled) was super sweet! She was fresh out of training but she still gave amazing service! We now know who we will request when we go back which will be very soon. Thanks Sarah for making our anniversary amazing! Ps; had to edit cause this food was TOOOO DAMN GOOD

The pork enchiladas are amazing! Not your typical enchilada plate, above and beyond! Blueberry margaritas too! We went on New Years Eve: busy but great service and no reservation required.

Our first dining experience in Austin and it didn’t let us down. Great food served fresh and quick. The bar staff were new in training with one being mentored. It was a unique experience but everybody has to train .

Update Feb 2025. Here attending a conference again and couldn’t wait to go back. Even better experience this time. Our waiter Issac was incredible, the drinks were awesome, the Camarones al La Parrilla was still mouthwatering. This time we had two salas and the fire roasted one was so tasty! Definitely a favorite stop in Austin! Feb 2024 Attending a conference in Austin and stumbled upon Iron Cactus. They were busy but got us in quicker than expected. The food was absolutely amazing!! So good. Camerones a la parrilla was absolutely mouth watering. Service was ehhh, we didn’t get chips and salsa until after our food came out and never got refills. She was friendly just busy I guess. Every table but ours had chips and salsa besides us. However the food alone would bring me back. The rooftop sitting area was very nice and we enjoyed the beautiful evening.
